Wayland Farms Win at the National Pig Awards

We are proud to announce that we have won three awards in the National Pig Awards this year, in the categories of:

Pig Producer of the Year
Outdoor Pig Producer of the Year (for the second year running)
‘Special Achievement of the Year Award’ to Lee Thompson

For Pig Producer of the Year, the judges said: ‘Wayland Farms is one of the country’s most impressive and progressive pig businesses. It is very much a holistic approach supplying high quality products to Cranswick, with a strong focus on pig health and welfare and environmental enhancement.’

For Outdoor Pig Producer of the Year, we were commended for a series of innovative projects such as full use of a carbon footprinting tool and monitoring water use.

The Special Achievement of the Year Award was given to Wayland Fieldsperson Lee Thompson, for ‘Flat White Chats’, which is a podcast and website which he set up himself and which has done a great deal to raise the profile of mental health in the agriculture sector.

Outdoor Pig Herd Performance Results for 2019

We are very pleased to announce our herd performance results for 2019, which are a great start in helping us to achieve our pledge to be a carbon net zero business by 2030. In 2019 Wayland Farms started using certified sustainable soya, which, when taken into account, reduces our carbon figures from 3.31to 1.63Kg Co2 / KgLW and re-categorises us as an A rated business.

Wayland Farms awarded ‘Outdoor Pig Producer of the Year 2019’

We had a fantastic time at the National Pig Awards and were thrilled to come away with not just one, but two awards: Wayland Farms won ‘2019 Outdoor Pig Producer of the Year’ and our Breeding Farms Manager was the well deserved recipient of the ‘The Chris Brant Award’.

The judges said: “During the judging process Wayland Farms demonstrated an impressive degree of integrity, professionalism and a clear commitment to both animals and people alike. Their business infrastructure and philosophy both focus on animal welfare, biosecurity, sustainability and the desire to ‘do the right thing’, which have all evidently contributed to such a successful model.”

The National Pig Awards are staged annually by Pig World and Lewis Business Media to recognise excellence and innovation in the pig sector. This was the biggest event yet with around 450 people from across the industry in attendance.

Pig World publisher Simon Lewis said: “Congratulations to Wayland Farms who were deserved winners on the night. Once again these awards have highlighted the breadth and depth of talent, drive and ambition in the pig sector and is a pleasure to recognise the winners, but also all of those shortlisted, which, in itself, is a great achievement.”
